Gerald Richards – CEO

GERALD RICHARDS is the CEO of the Super Power Agency. He is also the founder at B + G, a new consulting firm based in London and Edinburgh helping organisations and individuals flourish through creativity, coaching, organisational development and storytelling. 

From 2010 – 2017, Gerald was the CEO of 826 National, where he led the strategic direction, administration and building of resources for the network of affiliate organisations located in eight US cities, as well the establishment of affiliates in additional US and international cities. With more than twenty-five years of management and development experience at local and national nonprofit organisations, Gerald is a respected trainer and sought after speaker on topics of youth development, writing, creativity, and education access. Gerald was awarded the 2016 News Corp Community Hero Award and is a fellow in the Pahara-Aspen Institute Education Fellowship. Originally from Harlem, NYC, Gerald has a BA in Film Studies from Wesleyan University and an MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Cal McDonald – Programme Coordinator

Cal McDonald is the Programme Coordinator at the Super Power Agency. He organises the in-school writing programmes in schools in Edinburgh designing and facilitating workshops to unleash the creativity of young people. Cal has always been passionate about language and writing, studying literature at the University of Glasgow and being selected for their undergraduate creative writing stream. 

Since university, Cal ha been working with vulnerable groups across the central belt. On the west coast, he coached and helped at-risk young people transition to a positive post-school life as an Employability Coordinator. He wen ton to run a support & inclusion base for young people with additional support needs in a mainstream secondary school, specialising in those with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. With the Super Power Agency, Cal has finally been able to bring together two strands of his life: his experience of working with under-resourced young people and his love of creative writing. In his spare time, Cal can be found cycle touring, hiking and camping as well as writing bad sci-fi and middling poetry.

Claire Heffernan – Volunteer Coordinator

Claire Heffernan is the Volunteer Coordinator at the Super Power Agency. She manages the volunteer journey from start to finish and works to ensure the volunteers are happy. 

Before joining the team in 2019 Claire was an Art Teacher in England and passionately believes in allowing young people to be creative in their learning. Prior to that she worked for Explore Learning, a literacy and maths organisation helping children become fearless learners. 

Claire has an BA in Art History, an MA in Art Business and can often be found creating art of her own.


    The Super Power Agency is dedicated to supporting young people, aged 8-18, using a range of writing workshops, interdisciplinary creative programmes and a corps of volunteers. Our aim is to give students the support they need to close the attainment gap in education.
