Ian Rankin is an Edinburgh-based crime writer. His interests include beer and music.
What were you like at school?
I was quite brainy, not super-brainy. Not exactly sporty. A dreamer and schemer, happiest alone in my bedroom, drawing cartoons, writing song lyrics, reading books, listening to music.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
I’d probably be the blackest black – my favourite colour. Maybe because as a crime write I’m usually looking at the dark side of life.
What inspires you about this project?
I think it’s a shame we’re not more creative and don’t use our imaginations more – the human imagination is a super power all on its own – it can invent universes, and take each and every one of us through time and space.
