The Haunting, by Ruby
Daily Dose
Tuesday 1st December
Ghost haunts sewer cleaners!
Earlier today a “ghost” was haunting sewer cleaners. “Sewage water was floating around me.” sewage cleaner. Is this a real ghost or is it fake? Nobody knows or do they?
Chapter 1
I could feel the dripping of sewer water on my head and neck. I’m here on a top secret spy mission. It was a usual Tuesday morning, when I heard my pencil ringing (I’m a spy and a detective what did you expect).
“Hello?” I said.
“Is that Clare Sams?”
“Yep that’s me…”
“We’re sending you on a mission.”
“But m-,”
“We’ve got that covered.” I let out a sigh of relief. “We’ll send out a cab in fifteen minutes.”
“Got it bye.”
“Ugh!” I leaned back further into my chair. My pencil started ringing again. “Oh what is it now?” I picked up my pencil. “Hello.”
“Two more things, one we’ll explain when you get there and two you’ve got until Christmas to solve this.”
“Okay.”
“Here we go, let’s go and get my socks.”
Chapter 2
“Is it for Clare Sams?”
“Sure is ya wee lassy.”
The taxi had something about it that didn’t quite add up. I can just tell when something’s up. I can also read people’s faces. That’s S.O.S. (super ominous spies as I like to call it) when they hired me. “S.O.S. shop please.”
“Got it,” said the driver enthusiastically.
“Super S.O.S. society.” I said to the shopkeeper. He led me to the door. “Hold on tight” he whispered. Whoosh I went flying through a tunnel (this was my favourite part!) “Hello”
“Ciao”
“Morning”
“Hi”
It was the four leaders of S.O.S. “We are here to inform you of your mission,” said one stepping out.
Chapter 3
“Our readers have sensed strange activity in the sewers, rats behaving strangely, walls mysteriously closing in. We’re sending you down there to investigate.”
“Good luck.”
A trap door suddenly opened up under my feet. I landed with a soft ‘thud’.
I wasn’t in the sewers. It was dark and eerie. There were robots all around me and then ‘shove’ they started shoving spy wear on me. And before I knew it a new trap door was opening under me, into the sewers! It smelt terrible here and it was hot and sticky no wonder the rats were behaving weirdly. Then a memory flashed back to me. I ran my hands against the rough walls with that expression on her face, the leader who was speaking she knew something I didn’t…
Chapter 4
I could feel the dripping of sewer water on my head and neck. That’s where I was right? The sewer water appeared to be floating. I rubbed my eyes and it was back where it was supposed to be. Hmm that was weird. I thought. After what felt like hours I could see black and grey dots ahead of me, no wait are they rats? I shivered at the thought they were definitely rats. They seemed to be behaving oddly. The stench of the dirty sewage water was suffocating the rough walls and felt harder somehow? The rats were all heading in the same direction, through the darkness I could see a ghostly figure of an old man with a walking stick humming to himself. The rats seemed to be squeaking the same tune! The wind whistled in the sewers cooling me down but how was there wind down here?
